Lucia Zapata Griffith Originally from Lima, Peru I moved to Charlotte in 1985 (so long ago!), I was a registered architect in my home country and worked on a variety of projects. Upon arriving in Charlotte I had the good fortune to work for a talented group of professionals at a local architectural firm; I was project architect on diverse commercial projects and enjoyed the time working with the team. In 1989 I joined a young architectural firm and became a principal two years later; we designed office buildings and production plants. As the company grew - at our peak we were around 20 people including part-time designers - we needed a system for the efficient management of information amongst our team members and with our clients. The answer was the implementation of the ISO-9001 Quality Standard an endeavor that I lead; we were certified by KPMG-Peat Marwick in 1995. The effort paid off! Our new system resulted on a more efficient use of our resources, especially of our time!....... this in turn resulted in higher productivity. In 1997 following an interest to diversify beyond architecture to construction and development I founded what is now METRO Landmarks. My previous experience with ISO 9001 motivated a decision to adopt the same system in this new venture; we are determined to keeping METRO efficient, flexible and nimble. We are constantly improving our methods and updating our techniques. I am really proud of the quality design and construction services we provide at METRO Landmarks. You can see that in our website. Other personal interests include historic buildings, the stories of the people that occupied historic buildings, business trends, listening to my I-pod, dancing and good action movies. Of course my family is my main interest. I am a mother, wife, stepmother, daughter and sister so dinnertime, birthday celebrations, long distance phone calls, etc. are at the top of the list!
